The Community Land Trust of Greater Cleveland is a non-profit organization that develops permanently affordable homes for sale in Cleveland. The Land Trust makes homeownership a reality for low- and moderate-income families by lowering the price of quality homes.

Since its founding in 2001, the Land Trust has developed 7 homes for first-time homebuyers in Cleveland and an inner ring suburb. Land Trust homeowners have a combined 44 years of successful ownership, with no foreclosures. The Lincoln Institue of Land Policy has a national report documenting the remarkably low delinquency and foreclosure rates among communitiy land trusts across the United States.

Update August 22, 2011

Over the past several months, the board and staff of CLTGC have been meeting with their counterparts at Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland (NHSGC) to explore the feasibility of a merger. The CLTGC board and membership voted to approve the merger Monday, August 22, 2011.

The merger will add the affordable homeownership program of the Community Land Trust of Greater Cleveland to the range of successful programs of Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland. NHSGC has a 35-year history of providing access to sustainable homeownership, including pre-purchase education, rehab lending, foreclosure prevention and reverse mortgage lending. CLTGC’s program is based on a nationally successful homeownership model for lower-income households, using a land lease arrangement that assures that the homes developed by the land trust continue to provide opportunities for homeownership through successive sales to low- or moderate-income buyers.

In the merger talks, the CLTGC board had two primary goals:

  • Protecting and supporting current Land Trust homeowners.
  • Expanding the ability of the Land Trust to increase the number of land Trust homes and other uses of the Land Trust in the future.
